Identify the Common Main Ideas

    I found these texts about blogs to be helpful for all future blog posts. There were some ideas that I had never thought of. The texts mentioned a variety of tips and tricks for blog writing. Some ideas that stood out to me include....

• Having a compelling headline to draw the readers in
• Using a clear layout including short paragraphs, bullet point, and media
• Starting a new blog post with an outline or draft

Spotlight a Text

    I thought the first text, 10 Characteristics and Features of a Good Blog, was attention grabbing. When I opened the the link, the background color drew my eyes in. 

    I found the usage of shorter paragraphs made the blog easier to read. The shorter paragraphs made me more willing to read it as opposed to long paragraphs. 

    The subheadings were also a great addition to this post because they help to break the page up.

I tried a few different things in this post including writing styles and layout ideas.

I worked on using smaller paragraphs to break up the writing and make it an easier read for the audience.

The Beginning of my WRIT 100 Journey

 My Journey with Reading & Writing

Hello Readers, 

Welcome to my blog! My name is Courtney K. and I am excited to begin my second semester in the ECE program at Humber College. 

If you had more time to read or research what is an issue that you would be interested in exploring? Why?

    I find the social sciences like psychology and sociology to be especially interesting. I particularly enjoy researching and learning about psychology. When I was in secondary school, I had a class dedicated to teaching psychology, sociology, anthropology, and economics. My intrigue and willingness to learn the subject began in that class. 

Review the course learning outcomes and essential skills. Which are you most enthusiastic about pursuing? Why? Which are you most anxious about pursuing? Why? 

    I think that evaluating a variety of texts for reliability and effectiveness is the learning outcome I am most excited to pursue. This outcome will be very beneficial to me as I aspire to become a teacher and this skill will be very useful to find appropriate reading materials. 

    Reading a variety of texts to paraphrase and summarize accurately is the learning outcome I am most anxious to pursue. This is the learning outcome I am anxious about because, I believe in previous classes this was my weakest skill. I aim to work hard and strengthen this skill throughout the semester. 

Review the assessment and grading system in this course. How does this make you feel? Why?

   I have not worked with a grading system like this before. This new grading system makes me feel a bit anxious as I begin this new semester. 

   It makes me feel a bit anxious because in all my previous classes, I would receive a specific number grade. I was comfortable with this grading system because I knew exactly how hard I needed to work to earn the grade that I had hoped to achieve. 

    The best before dates and grace periods are also a new experience for me. I believe that this idea will be very beneficial for not only me but other students as well. 

    If I aim to complete an assignment by the best before date and an emergency happens or something comes up, then I would still have the grace period to hand in the assignment. 

What types of materials will you need to read and/or write for your field of study and/or in your career path ahead?

    I am currently a student in the Early Childhood Education program and will be mainly working in daycares and childcare centers. I will have to read policies, procedures, and other documents provided by the staff. I will also have to learn how to read and write incident reports incase of injury.
